The Riksdag has decided to introduce a new excise tax on chemicals in certain electronics.
The purpose of the new tax is to reduce the presence, spread and exposure of hazardous flame retardants in people’s home environment. The purpose is not to stop the use of flame retardants, but instead to influence the use of more environmentally friendly and health-friendly alternatives. The new rules affect, inter alia, the companies that professionally manufacture, import or import taxable electronic goods.
The provisions are contained in the Act (2016: 1067) on Chemicals in Certain Electronics (LSKE). Read more on the Swedish Tax Agency’s website.
